Data and Technology Consultants

About Us

***Important Update***

Dear Applicants, we’re grateful for your interest in the Data and Technology Consultant position. The application process is now closed, but we encourage you to revisit our careers page for future opportunities.

Human Engine is a Financial Times top-ranked management consultancy with specialisms in strategy, change, digital, commercial and projects.

We started in 2018 because we believed the public sector deserved better from consulting – more personal, more human and more knowledgeable of the realities of modern public services.  All consulting firms say they’re different – with a founding team that came from within the public sector, the Human Engine difference is that we’ve seen it, done it and been on the sharp end of change.

We are a small but quickly growing company that works with clients in local government, central government, the NHS, charitable and regulatory sectors.  In fact, quickly growing is an understatement – we’re doubling the size of our consulting workforce and looking for exceptionally talented and passionate people to join us.

But business growth is just a means to an end. What matters most to us is creating a company culture where everyone can thrive and, in doing so, deliver outstanding outcomes with clients.  A lot of companies say this – but with no shareholders to keep happy and no investors to pay back, we’re all about creating a culture where people are happy, fulfilled and can excel at work.  Whatever the nature of the project, our mission is to help organisations and individuals to do the best work of their lives.

About the Roles

One way or another, all of our clients are looking to data and technology to change things for the better.  Our approach isn’t unique, but it is specific – we see people as the purpose and technology as the tool. We’ve always been strong at the first part – developing a deep understanding of our clients and bringing clarity to strategy and outcomes. We’re now looking to build our technical expertise and to welcome people to the team who can help our clients harness data and technology to transform decision making, enhance productivity and accelerate change.

To be the right fit, you’ll hit the sweet spot between strategy and delivery. We’re looking for thinkers who can turn high-level strategies into detailed plans and projects.  And we’re looking for doers who will love to get deep into data and use it to tell compelling stories.  You’ll need to have a passion for data and technology and experience of applying them to improve how organisations work.  We’re looking for people with good technical expertise for these roles – you don’t need to be able to code, but you’ll need a very practical understanding of different technology options in order to recommend solutions to clients. We’re also looking for people who are adept with data, skilled in process design and have experience of technology implementations.

If this sounds like your jam, consider applying below.  More interested in the digital and design side of things?  You’ll find these roles in our Service Design practice.

As a Consultant, you’ll play a critical role in delivering outstanding work for our clients on a day-to-day basis. You’ll have gained experience in a related role, demonstrated an exceptional aptitude for learning and be ready for your next challenge. This role will typically suit someone with 2-3 years’ experience in a technology, consulting or public sector environment.

Senior Consultants up to £65k

Senior Consultants bring deep subject matter expertise and plenty of experience to help our clients achieve things they can’t do alone. At this level, you’ll be a seasoned change agent who will lead on projects, often being the client’s most senior regular contact. You’ll play a vital role as a subject matter expert on larger programmes – and our approach to matrix working means you’ll sometimes be leading these programmes, too.

You’ll lead on programmes and projects and be given a high degree of autonomy and empowerment to design and deliver solutions with clients.
